Murray Livingston

Murray is a South African professional fine art landscape and nature photographer (film & digital) with more than 10 years of experience. He is a deep thinker with interests in wildlife & conservation, philosophy, design, cooking, and more. All of this translates into Murray’s unique contemplative and introspective approach to photography.

Eugene Theron

August in North Wales is stunning! The mountains come alive with the purples of heather as summer begins it’s fade into autumn, whereas at the coast you can experience long peaceful evenings surrounded by some spectacular views. This dramatic part of the United Kingdom provides endless photographic opportunity and is the perfect setting for a landscape photography workshop.

Two workshop leaders with two different approaches and styles have teamed up to offer a unique series of one-day workshops focused on improving your photography. These workshops not only give you the opportunity to learn from two leaders, but also from other attendees through constructive group discussion and image reviews. With each day designed around a different genre of landscape photography, we offer tuition that can help you master the technical side of photography, improve your compositional skills, and develop your vision in a location that suits you. Choose from exploring the beautiful coast and shorelines of North Wales or Eryri’s (Snowdonia’s) dramatic mountains and waterways, or even come along for all three days.

No matter the level of your photography, join us for a 1-day landscape photography workshop and learn how to be more intentional with your creative process, alongside different tips and techniques, to further your artistic vision.

  • Two workshop leaders. Two different approaches. Murray Livingston and Eugene Theron have teamed up to offer a unique series of one-day workshops that gives you the oppotunity to learn from two different photographers.

  • Choose from exploring the beautiful coast or waterways of North Wales, or Eryri’s (Snowdonia’s) dramatic mountains.

  • Full 8 hour days packed with activities, which include: on location tuition, image review and discussion, and advice on post-processing.

  • The intimate setting of a 1:3 teaching ratio allows for lots of 1-on-1 time as well as group tutoring. This also allows everyone plenty of space to find their own composition.

  • Paired with image reviews, we will take part in critiques that look at each others work in a constructive manner. Take this opportunity to learn from other photographer’s unique approaches!

  • All locations are typically a short walk from the car. If you are a regular walker then the physical requirements for this trip will be easy.

Tuition

The workshop itself will begin with a short walk to situate ourselves before delving in to the practice of photography, composition, image critiques, and more. Throughout each day, we will be focused on the art of photography & developing personal expression through a contemplative creative process. This is a great opportunity to learn from two tutors with different approaches, as well as visit some incredible locations for a unique workshop experience. We aim to help you achieve your artistic vision by improving your composition skills and teaching new techniques. In addition, we will help you make your own intimate connections with nature through the practice of photography by teaching you how to be more intentional with your creative process

Both Eugene and myself will be on hand at all times for 1-on-1 and group tuition. In addition to this, we will be performing a series of short creative exercises both to stimulate the group and to introduce the participants to the area. Part of this workshop is also to watch how we go about making photographs in the field. As such, we will also be making images with our cameras to demonstrate our creative processes. Some topics covered on the workshop range from:

  • Basic & Advanced camera techniques

  • Importance of light

  • Photographing in black and white or colour

  • How personal expression dictates composition and subject finding

  • Post-processing techniques

If you want to get a sense of how I teach, you can watch me in the field on my youtube channel. If you have any questions please get in touch!
