Quiver Tree (Kokerboom) Fine Art Prints

I had been keen to visit the Quiver Tree Forest in South Africa for many years and finally my schedule aligned with a rare availability to stay on the private farm in March of 2024. I spent 3 days exploring and photographing the vast forest of aloes (not trees); the forest is the largest in the southern hemisphere, comprising of thousands of specimens of Aloidendron dichotomum. Quiver Trees are unique in a number of ways, not the least because they have the special ability to sacrifice one of their limbs in order to survive drought. The harsh landscape is littered with these rather strange dried amputated branches. During my stay I had vibrant sunrises and sunsets, intense heat, and beautiful moonlight. Hopefully I will be able to return in the not so distant future to explore further and make more photographs of these otherworldly plants. Below you will find a collection of the images I made during this brief visit, organised as a series of diptychs.

Drakensberg Mountains South Africa, March 2024

The Drakensberg Mountains are a UNESCO heritage site and host some of the most remote and stunning hiking routes found anywhere in the world - the perfect location for a wilderness experience and world-class photographic opportunities. My recent trip was the culmination of many years of planning and hard work. I explored the epic Northern Traverse, or roughly 75km of hiking at 3000masl, with ~3000m of ascent over the course of 6 days. At times it was physically challenging, but the views and awesome people who joined more than compensated. It was incredible to have hosted and shared such a unique and transcendent experience with other like minded photographers. The images in this gallery were made over the course of this memorable week.

Scotland’s Ancient Caledonian Forest, December 2023

The Ancient Caledonian Forests of the highlands of Scotland are a relic of how the landscape once looked prior to modern land management practices. These woodlands first appeared after the glaciers of the last ice age retreated thousands of years ago. There are small remnants of the forest dotted around the country, with modern ecological movements to re-establish more widespread portions of Scots Pine, Alder, Birch, Rowan, Mountain Ash, and countless other species including animals. This gallery includes some of my best images from exploring these ancient forests, in particular showcasing one frosty morning in December 2023.
